YO! SISSY is Berlin’s
international queer music festival.
YO! SISSY is Berlin’s premier international queer music festival that takes place each year at the end of July. Entering its third year, each festival bridges local performers and established international talent and has already showcased artists and attracted audience members from over twenty different countries with a focus on promoting female and trans* identified artists.
YO! SISSY is not a festival with one style, one genre or one scene, but aims to a create a space for all people to be their fabulous selves while supporting emerging queer artists with the stages they deserve. YO! SISSY is an artist-run festival founded in Berlin, a city famous for its colorful culture and LGBTQI* inclusivity. YO! SISSY is a DIY project and relies on community support to create the spaces and representation that we need. Your ticket purchase directly supports queer performers from Berlin and beyond.
Performers have included: Peaches, Cakes da Killa, Crystal Waters, JD Samson, Mykki Blanco, Le1f, Karin Park, Christeene, Hard Ton, and many more. YO! SISSY has received praise in The Guardian, The Fader, iD Magazine, Dazed and Confused, ArtForum, VICE, Berliner Zeitung, and many more publications.
This year’s festival takes place July 28th and 29th at Festaal Kreuzberg over five stages and will include a free Saturday afternoon Marketplace that will host over twenty queer businesses selling food, drinks, clothing, crafts, and other wares.
Additionally this year, YO! SISSY is collaborating with Native Instruments to incorporate DJs, performances, artist-run panel discussions, and hands-on workshops throughout the day. Breaking down barriers, including those between audience and performer, has been an important element of YO! SISSY since its inception and these workshops will provide our audience members with information on equipment, skills, and knowledge to develop their own music production.
