YO! SISSY is Berlin’s
international queer music festival.
Entering its third year, the festival has already showcased artists and attracted audience members from over 20 different countries. Our mission remains the same: to showcase burgeoning local performers alongside established international acts with a focus on promoting female and trans* identified talent.
The festival will take place July 28th and 29th at the Columbia Complex in Tempelhof and feature five separate areas for simultaneous performance split between the Columbia Halle and Columbia Theater facilities. A dynamic success, YO! SISSY has received praise in The Guardian, The Fader, iD Magazine, Dazed and Confused, ArtForum, VICE, Berliner Zeitung, and many more publications.
The first Yo! Sissy was the largest festival of its kind to ever take place in Berlin, a city famous for its colourful culture and LGBT inclusivity. The last years of the festival have featured performances from the likes of Peaches, Cakes da Killa, Crystal Waters, JD Samson, Mykki Blanco, Le1f, Karin Park, Christeene, Hard Ton, and many more.
This year, a new and important element of the festival will be a Marketplace that will host over 20 queer businesses from Berlin and abroad selling food, drinks, clothing, crafts, and other wares. This will take place on Saturday afternoon in the Columbia Halle garden and will be free and open to the public. During this time we will incorporate DJs, performances, artist-run panel discussions, and hands-on workshops hosted in collaboration with Native Instruments. These workshops will provide our audience members with information on equipment, skills, and knowledge to increase their own music production or DJing techniques. We believe this is an important step to further breaking the divide between our audience and performers, which has been an important element of YO! SISSY since its inception.
